Reader-funded journalism.
Members pay the bills
line by line.

Most of this work is paperwork, postage, and patience. FOIA filing fees. Subscriptions to court-records databases. Stamps and certified mail. Phone-bridge fees to incarcerated sources. None of it photographs well. All of it is the work. The tiers below map to the line items in our books, not to a marketing funnel.

If membership is too much commitment, leave a tip. Same ledger, same disclosures.

Every amount opens a Stripe-hosted checkout. Card details go directly to Stripe, and each payment is recorded by the private operations ledger.

Multi-year general operating support, board-restricted grants, and fund distributions go through editorial review. Write editor@insidemichigan.org with one paragraph on your organization.

Inside Michigan is not currently claiming tax-deductible status on this page. Membership fees and tips are treated as reader support, not tax-deductible charitable contributions, unless and until fiscal sponsor or nonprofit status is confirmed in writing. We publish all members and sponsors above $5,000 in our annual report. For operator context and contact details, see About Steven Haller.
